CALLING ALL CARS (… WELL, 5 CARS)!
STRAIGHT EIGHTS INVITED TO DISPLAY CARS AT HILLWOOD’S "DIVAS OUTDOORS" FILM SCREENINGS: JUNE 10, 18 & 19

Want to ‘flash your fenders’ before a crowd of 300 to 500 Gay and Lesbian film buffs at the DIVAS OUTDOORS: Classic Films Under the Stars Series? This popular event is presented in partnership with One In Ten at the fabulous (and very GLBT-supportive) Hillwood Estate, Museum and Gardens, nestled in Rock Creek Park in the heart of DC’s Van Ness neighborhood! Ideally, we need displays of three to five different vintage vehicles for each of three different screening dates: Friday June 10; Saturday June 18 and Sunday June 19. This annual event provides great visibility for the Straight Eights, and we’d love to have you and your vehicle represent the Club (new members are especially encouraged to display)! In exchange for your help, you and one guest will receive Free Admission to that night’s screening.

This year’s three films are presented by The Dina Merrill Film Series, each of which features the actress in a supporting or lead role (Ms. Merrill is of course the daughter of Hillwood’s late owner, Marjorie Merriweather Post):

You could also win a DVD of the respective film – signed by Dina Merrill herself – when you let your creativity shine in the popular Picnic Spread Competition (your display may be themed to that night’s film, or simply be ‘fabulous’)! Prior to the film, guests can also enjoy Hillwood’s new exhibit: Wedding Belles: Bridal Fashions from the Marjorie Merriweather Post Family, 1874-1958 exhibition.

A promotional event for One In Ten's " Reel Affirmations" Gay and Lesbian Film Fest, this well-established event traditionally draws between 350 and 500 attendees and provides great visibility and outreach for the Straight Eights! Drawing a very receptive slice of our GLBT community, this crowd is respectful of our vehicles and interested in ‘things vintage.’ You’ll have enjoyable conversations with the attendees who are very respectful and careful around the vehicles. You’ll also have a unique photo opportunity for your car, which will be parked in front of one of DC’s grandest and most storied mansions!

We encourage participants to arrive on-site about 30-minutes before the start of the event on each respective evening. You will be supplied with flyers about the Club. If you would like to participate and show your beauty, email member Jim Byers at impsrule@prodigy.net with a description of your car, availability, and for more information.
