PRIDE IN JUNE BRINGS
SEVERAL OPPORTUNITIES TO SHINE
Saturday, June 5 – Historic Dupont Circle Main Streets Festival
The Straight Eights have been asked to put on a mini-car show at the monthly “Historic Dupont Circle Main Streets Festival,” Saturday, June 5, 12:30 pm-4:30 pm. The enclosed parking lot is located at the northeast corner of 20th Street and Massachusetts Avenue, NW. It has two entrances: one off Mass Ave behind the large PNC Bank (Old Riggs Bank) that is on Dupont Circle itself, and one entrance off from 20th Street, just south of the Dupont Metro (north) entrance and Q Street, NW. The parking lot sits behind the 1300 block of Connecticut Avenue is surrounded by a nice six foot wrought iron fence and is located on the northwest side of Dupont Circle (the address of the PNC Bank is 1913 Massachusetts Avenue for search purposes).
Saturday, June 12 – Capital Pride Parade
This year, the Straight Eights will participate in the Capital Pride Parade instead of the Capital Pride Festival, and we will be sponsoring our own contingent five cars and any of our members who want to walk beside the cars or ride in the cars. The cars have been confirmed, so we would love to have you walk with our contingent. The 2010 Capital Pride Parade will step off at 6:30 pm on Saturday, June 12, and more information will be provided via the weekly updates, so stay tuned.
Saturdays, June 19 and 26 - Hillwood: Divas Outdoors
Once again, the Straight Eights have been invited to display three (3) to six (6) cars at Hillwood Estate Museum and Gardens "Divas Outdoors" film screenings. A promotional event for One In Ten's "Reel Affirmations" Film Fest, this event traditionally draws between 350 and 500 attendees. This year, they're screening "What’s Up Doc?" with Barbara Streisand and Ryan O’Neil on June 19 and "My Little Chickadee" with Mae West and W.C. Fields on June 26. As usual, the gates will open at 6:30, and the films will end right around 10:00. On June 19, the Gay Men’s Chorus will be performing a few selections from their Divas concert. If you would like to participate and show your beauty, email Jim Byers at impsrule@prodigy.net for more information.
